This summer we accomplished something we have wanted to for a while. We hiked to Green Lakes with the kids. It is nearly 9 miles round trip! The hike is at a high elevation and on the longer side, but it is easy. The lakes sit in a valley between the peaks of South Sister and Broken Top Mountains.
The majority of the hike is along a river with small waterfalls along the way. There are wildflower covered meadows, lava flows, and glimpses of the mountains along the way.
There are designated camping sites for backpackers that are looking for a short weekend trip. And there are frogs. Oh, the frogs. This was the kid motivation…frog hunting.
I recommend this hike to anyone looking to feel up close to the tops of mountains without having hike anything too steep or technical. One of my favorites so far.
