Today was a gym day. The family has the day off and will be going to the rock climbing gym without me, so I had to get my workout in at the gym before heading into work.
I will generally focus on a certain muscle group in the gym, but I was just looking to burn some calories today. So I focused on a circuit workout.
I started with cardio on the treadmill. I would rather run outside, but it is really cold outside and I have a little asthma that doesn’t like me running in the cold. So, until the weather eases up a bit, I am on the treadmill. It was a walk at 3.5 and run at 5.0 for 15 minutes and 1 mile total.
Then I moved on to a giant set or a small circuit (however you want to look at it) for 4 sets:
- 15 goblet squats with 25lbs
- 10 box jumps at 24 inches
- 10 lateral raises with 10lbs each arm
On the 4th set, I didn’t feel comfortable with the box jumps as I was fatigued and hadn’t done them in a while so I switched to alternating step ups.
Then I moved to a superset for the abdominals for 3 sets:
- 15 BOSU crunches
- 10 Stability ball knee tucks
After the abs, I made time for some good stretching.
Now that I am looking back at the workout, I wish I would have gotten back on the treadmill for another .5 to 1 mile. So, that will be my goal for next time. I need to get consistent with running for an early summer race that I am planning on participating in.
This is workout #1 for 2017. I plan to post all of my workouts this year and will link them together as I go.
