There are a ton of different types of bars out there that come down to 2 things. Dates and nuts. They are sought after for being great natural choices for pre and post workout fuel. But they are also pricey. The homemade versions of the classic energy bar are just a bit cheaper and you can add any additions that you are interested in.

What you need:
A good food processor
1 cup nuts and seeds. I like to use pecans, almonds, and sunflower seeds.
1 cup dried fruit. This should mostly be dates because of the stickiness of them, but you can add any other dried fruit that you have on hand or enjoy. I like to add dried apples when I think to buy them.
Additions for flavor. In this batch, I added coconut flakes, pumpkin pie spice, chia, flax, and some mini chocolate chips. The world is your oyster here…but probably not a good idea to actually add oysters.
What to do:
Put all of the ingredients in your food processor and blend that stuff up until it rolls around in a big ball all stuck together.
Lay out parchment paper if you have it (you really should have some). If you don’t, foil or plastic wrap will do. Press out the…dough? Yes, we’ll call it that for now. Press it out with your palm until it is the desired thickness. 1/4 to 1/2 an inch is probably good.
Set it in the fridge to set for an hour or so. When you remember they are in the fridge take them out and cut them into bars.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Nom nom nom.
